Cattle Cow Bovine Farm Stomach Tube Trocar
The cattle stomach tube trocar is primarily used to treat cattle bloat (ruminal tympany). Bloat occurs when gas accumulates in the rumen and cannot be released, which can lead to severe discomfort or even death if not addressed. The stomach tube trocar provides a quick, emergency way to relieve this trapped gas. The trocar is inserted through the cow’s left flank (the side where the rumen is located). The sharp point of the trocar creates a hole in the rumen, allowing gas to escape. Once the trocar is in place, the gas that has accumulated in the rumen can escape through the tube, providing relief to the cow. After the trocar is inserted, a cannula is sometimes left in place to continue allowing gas to escape as necessary until further treatment (like a stomach tube or surgical intervention) can be administered. The process helps relieve the immediate pressure caused by the bloat and buys time for further treatment. It’s usually done in emergencies when other methods (like a stomach tube) are impractical or too slow to be effective.
